CARBONDALE, Ill., (WSIL) -- It's a partnership that transcends the typical; it's also one that is mutually beneficial. The Southern Illinois School of Applied Engineering and Technology in the College of Engineering, Computing, Technology and Mathematics are teaming up with AISIN Electronics Illinois to train future workers.
In the new partnership, AISIN will pay SIUC students to work at the facility while they're also working on their degree. The students will have the opportunity to train in a variety of fields while there, including industrial management and engineering. The program allows students to get paid for their 5-day work week, while also covering tuition, books, fees, transportation and parking. The students get to work part-time, while getting hands-on experience in their field, and work on their degree. The students are expected to maintain good academic standing while in the program. They're also asked to commit to work for the company 2 years following graduation.
The program already has its first students. They signed up during a recruitment event that was held in mid-November.
